Johnny Kemp (born August 2, 1959) is a Bahamian R&B singer who rose to fame in the 1980s. He started performing in nightclubs in the Bahamas when he was thirteen years old. In 1979, he and his band “Kinky Fox” relocated to New York City. His self-titled first album was released in 1986, and he had a little success with the song “Just Another Lover.” He has since released two more albums. But it was the release of his Secrets of Flying album the following year that brought him true fame. The album had two Top 5 successes on the US Billboard R&B chart: “Dancin’ with Myself” and “Just Got Paid,” with the latter reaching number one. “Just Got Paid” also reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988, and it went on to become the number one song on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart that year.
